Susan McKelvy, Artist

Susan has drawn and painted since a young child. She took lessons at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC for years before attending the University of Denver, graduating with a Fine Arts degree. She has continued her art education with classes and workshops with Buffalo Kaplinski, Don Coen, Dick Phillips, Charles Rogers, Morgan Samuel Price, Albert Handell, and many others. She was a founding member and past president of the Paletteers, an art guild group in Northglenn, CO. She has worked in graphic design for AT&T and Mountain Bell. She directed the Hunterdon Art Center in Clinton, NJ (1979-80). She is past president of the Pastel Society of Colorado, a member of Platte Canyon Artist Guild, Pikes Peak Plein Air Painters, and the Art Students League of Denver. Her work has won numerous awards and she has been juried into many shows. She works in pastels, oils and watercolors. Sue enjoys the challenge of capturing landscapes, botanicals and animals as subjects and her ideas for many paintings arise from visions of the landscape as seen from the saddle. She is a long distance horse trail rider. Susan teaches classes at her home studio outside of Buffalo Creek, CO., in all media, working with artist/students from wherever they are in their practice of painting.
